¯\_(ツ)_/¯ - Refugee Lurker from Twitter/X/Mastodon/Bluesky
I have so many things over the years that I'm annoyed about, I've often considered it worthy of a website/social media account... But I'm a lazy grump, so I'll try a thread approach - join in if you're equally grumpy...

apparently (according to ccusage) I've spend over $1k US on CC API credits - not bad for 1m of AU$150 Pro - 1 day of use and I miss Fable already...

hate hate hate websites that don't allow dark-mode (either as default, or the option to choose)

...yes, I know I can over-ride it..

That moment when you realise (by only recognising the same mobile number) that a local business has done a pretty good job of a doorway page execution, flooding the wider local area with {town-name}+{service} domains. The designs are different enough, but that mobile number and same website-designer credit was enough for me to pick up on it... #OldSchoolSEO

When presented like this, it feels completely at odds with the amount of unnecessary complexity and effort I have put into it

This graph on how Apple is simply sitting back and watching the others race ahead with huge Capex on AI is fascinating (via https://adlrocha.substack.com/p/adlrocha-how-the-ai-loser-may-end )

There's so much about this post I agree with: https://www.0xsid.com/blog/wont-download-your-app

For the last year I went all in on Notion for documentation and absolutely love it - but I don't love that unless I pay, then I'm the product just as much.

With LLMs/AI (Claude specifically), I wanted my knowledge to essentially become a live/update RAG system - something isn't just a static repository of the current state of things, but a mechanism to build insights, efficiencies and improvements.

To that end I've been running Obsidian as a synced vault that Claude can read/write as part of a distributed context management system (note: I should fully trademark that! CMS! ;) )

I deliberately sliced out the "Home Network" documentation from Notion as this made the most sense for systems that were in flux - so now I'm thinking (and Claude agrees) that a self hosted Github clone (leaning towards Forgejo at this point) makes more sense - still maintains markdown, segments applications - changes/history/issues/documentation - and provides versioning vs a messy change log.

Writing this as a human-prompt to remind me of how it turns out.

Me RN: playing Claude Desktop off against Claude CLI (Code) on how to leverage the old Notion documentation repository with the new Obsidian one for the home network - they're very complimentary of each other's strengths - but good to see the weaknesses also called out.

Living semi-dangerously with Claude upgraded from Pro to Max (ok - Mini-Max - not the "Mega"-Max, I'm not got 'billies in da bank yo!"...)

I've done more in the past couple of weeks on the home network and applications (if anyone's interested):
1. EventFeed - a RSS enabled logger of things
2. FencePost - a GUI for my 'ufw' rules because who really understands their firewall?

And damn I kind miss the original "180 Chars" from ye-olde twitter days - this 5000 chars left counter on the Fediverse is making me feel inadequate

A year ago I gave up my office cupboard space (my office) and the electronic lift desk, and moved into the guest room so the other half could be warmer - to be fair she used the sit/stand desk much more than I did.

Now we have the MIL staying for 3 weeks and I’ve moved into to 9yo’s bedroom - complete with an array of indoor plants to share the desk with - which was originally an office - as there’s no Ethernet, or desk, in our bedroom.

I’ll be working from the farm shed next…

The downside of starting your own Fediverse instance is that it's effectively an island - a lonely, 1 person island.

Unlike joining an existing server/instance (and forgoing your absolute control/ownership), where there's an existing population to engage with, there is an additional step required to build those connections.

Nu nu phone - who dis?

After a few false starts with GoToSocial, I've landed on a hybrid Akkoma stack locally hosted to maintain my social "presence".
